How to Grow Tomatoes
How to Grow Tomatoes
It is easy to grow your own organic vegetables, including tomatoes, from your home. Here is a look at how to grow tomatoes.
First you will need to get the seeds or plants needed for the tomatoes. Various nurseries will offer these options. If you using seeds you should be sure that they are naturally prepared. When the seeds are put into the ground they will need to be in a mix that includes compost and peat moss. About a quarter inch of soil should be used in the mixture. Remember to visit http://www.mumsgrowyourownorganicvegetables.com for details on soil you should use.
After this process is done for the seeds they will need to be moistened. A light amount of water is needed because excessive amounts of water can be damaging to the seeds. Having your kids help you with watering on a regular basis can be useful and the kids will enjoy it. It will take about a week for the results to appear from out of the ground.
Another part of how to grow tomatoes deals with sunlight. It will be best to have about seven hours of sunlight on the tomatoes every day.
When the tomato plant grows the soil should be covering up most of the stem. You will need to move dirt upward so that the quarter top of the stem will stick out.
As the plant grows you will need to tie up your plant so that it can stay straight and stable. Cotton fabric alongside a stake is the best thing to use. Be sure to keep from tying the fabric too tight. If you have younger kids you can get them to help you with cutting out fabric for the plants. You can visit http://www.mumsgrowyourownorganicvegetables.com for details on how to get your kids to help in this case.
When taking care of the plant you should check daily for worms and insects. Any areas that have been impacted should be cut.
You should also avoid pruning your plants. When you grow tomatoes in that pruning can limit the amount of tomatoes that you can grow. The tomatoes that are already on the plant may not grow larger either.
Finally you will need to pick your tomatoes after they are fully grown. When a tomato is fully at the color that it is supposed to be it will have grown.
